Cody Simpson’s sister, Alli Simpson, revealed on Instagram that she broke her neck and said she was “lucky to be alive” after sustaining the injury in Australia.
“Long story short – I dived into a shallow pool with my head first and hit my head on the bottom. on New Year’s Eve I had an X-ray / CT scan and an MRI scan to find that I have 2 serious fractures in the neck (C6 & T1) 😖🥵 I was sent directly to the hospital in an ambulance to be assessed by a neurosurgeon, ”She captioned for several photos of herself in the hospital wearing a neck brace.
The 23-year-old model explained that she did not need “immediate” surgery, but that she will live in a hard neck brace “24/7” for four months while her neck heals.
“I’m extremely lucky to be alive and / or not quadriplegic as it JUST missed my spinal cord …”, she wrote. “As I see it, four months is a drop in the ocean when it comes to the rest of my happy and healthy life. As you can imagine, I have been in endless tears and thanked every guardian angel who watches over me in pool that night plus every moment since ❤️💋. “
Alli, who also revealed that she was tested positive for COVID-19 while in hospital, said she walked away with a “new lease” and issued a warning to her followers never to dive into any body of water, when its depth is unknown.
After her dramatic announcement, Alli thanked everyone for their unwavering support.
“I am so overwhelmed by the response I have received to my injury,” she wrote on her Instagram Story on Wednesday. “To hear some incredible similar stories. Feeling very loved and lucky.… Everything touches my heart !!”
