A fire at Metro’s future headquarters in Southwest DC sent smoke across the area and two firefighters were rushed to the hospital.
A firefighter received minor damage to the site on Seventh and D streets SW, DC Fire and EMS. Another firefighter had to be treated for a medical condition.
Photos and video show flames and heavy smoke Thursday morning on the roof of the building under construction.
About 100 firefighters were called to the scene.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and checked to see if the fire could be extended.
At the L’Enfant Plaza metro station, the entrance to Seventh and D streets was closed. Other entrances were open.
The fire was unintentional and associated with roofing work, DC Fire and EMS said.
Metro said in a statement, “We do not expect any significant impact on our plan to transfer workers to the building next year.”
