A Hamilton man was torn from his residence in the middle of the night in a violent domestic invasion that left one of his sons dead and the other fighting for his life is found in critical condition.

Around 2:55 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to a Glancaster and Dickenson Rds. residing in the Mount Hope area for reports of a shooting.

Police found two brothers believed to be in their 20s and suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to the hospital where one died. The other brother is in surgery, police say.

The men’s father, Faqir Ali, 63, was forced taken away from home in a dark SUV, detectives say. He was wearing a black and white plaid pajama undershirt and no shirt when he was taken from his home.

He was found around 9 a.m. with life-threatening injuries along Beach Blvd. near the lift bridge. Police would not say how they were able to locate Ali or the cause of his injuries.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident. They say the family was not known to police. Officers would not confirm if there were other people in the residence at the time, but said no one else was injured. The sons and the father are all occupants of the home.

The SUV has not been found. Police say there are “several people involved”.

The murder was the second killing in as many days in Hamilton.

Investigators are chasing the killer of 19-year-old Hamilton man Sabir Hassen Omer, who was shot down in the parking lot of a downtown Tim Hortons on Tuesday afternoon. Officers believe Omer was targeted.

The perpetrator fled on foot. He is described as about 5-foot-7 with a medium build and was wearing dark clothes and and dark shoes.

Police are asking anyone who has security camera footage from the area between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, as well as witnesses who were in the area before and during the shooting, to contact them.
