The vast majority of staff at Ottawa’s largest school board, responding to an initial list of COVID-19 vaccine admissions, said they had already received both doses within the first week of classes, although hundreds of staff have not yet testified about their vaccination status. .
Of the approximately 10,000 employees at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board who responded to a September 2 vaccine survey, more than 95 percent said they were fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Some 2.2 percent said they were partially vaccinated with a dose, while 2.3 percent indicated they would seek medical or human rights exemption, refused to receive a vaccine, or refused to disclose their status.
These initial responses account for 85 percent of all OCDSB staff, according to a presentation to the board Tuesday night.
The board is now following up with those who have not given a first answer.
Staff who have not been fully vaccinated or refused to say so will be subject to a rapid test protocol to be allowed to work at schools on the board until the OCDSB’s vaccine mandate begins to kick in at the end of the month. They must also undergo a course developed by the Ministry of Education, which aims to provide information on the benefits of vaccination.
All staff at OCDSB are expected to be fully vaccinated in the fall, with first shots needed by September 30th.

The board voted down a proposal at Tuesday’s committee meeting that proposed a mandate for full vaccination for eligible students born in 2009 or earlier.
Across Ottawa, about 90 percent of students ages 12 to 17 have received at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 77 percent are considered fully vaccinated, according to the local public health unit.
Ottawa Public Health’s COVID-19 dashboard shows that 81 percent of eligible residents are considered fully vaccinated from Wednesday, when 87 percent had received at least one dose.
