COVID has closed another local business, Chisholm Family Tavern, to close its doors after a long battle. The pub closes for the last time on Sunday, the owners announced on Facebook. “Well, it was not like we did not all try,” reads a post on Chisholm Tavern’s Facebook page. Owners Jenny and Graham “Gumby” Hunt had fought hard against a development application for a McDonald’s that would have their pub pushed out. But it was the decline in revenue caused by COVID that forced the local business to close. READ MORE COVID-19 NEWS: “The struggle to keep the Tavern’s doors open was long and fierce and continued for almost two years against not only landlords but also a giant business unit,” the statement said. “We thought it would be smooth sailing once and for all, but alas, COVID hit again.” Lockdown, as well as capacity constraints, increased the pressure on the inn’s owners, as did the “urgent need for renovation, which in the current economic climate is not viable”. “So with this announcement we would like to say thank you for all your support. Those of you who have been on ‘The Tav’ for all or part of the thirty years, we have been there a big THANK YOU and an even bigger RETURN TO EVERYONE, “the statement read. Chisholm Family Tavern offers takeaway orders from 15.00 Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.
