Sex crime in Sydney airport cafe: police | Lawyer from Great Lakes

news, national

A cafe employee at Sydney Airport was twice sexually assaulted by a 73-year-old man at her workplace, police said. The woman went to police on August 28, a day after the second alleged assault. “Police were able to obtain CCTV footage from inside the cafe, which police will claim confirms the victim’s complaint,” Australian federal police said on Wednesday. Additional CCTV footage allegedly revealed a previous assault of the same man in the same cafe. The alleged perpetrator – a 73-year-old Cherrybrook man who also works at the airport – has been interviewed and charged by police. In addition to two counts of sexually touching another person without consent, Antony Appathurai is also accused of having committed a closed country without lawful apology. Appathurai appeared without a lawyer for a judge in Sydney on Wednesday when his case was adjourned until October 6. Pleas in law must be lodged on that date. Australian Associated Press
