New art exhibited in SacCounty Board Chambers

Next time you attend a meeting of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Chambers, check out the rotating art on display! Sacramento County sponsors biennial art exhibits at Board Chambers, located at 700 “H” St. “The Colors of Time: Paintings by Laura Hohlwein” is now showing through December 19, 2021.

Laura Hohlwein is a painter, poet and photographer. She studied English at California State University, Sacramento, and holds an MFA in New Media from the Transart Institute in Austria as well as an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College.

“I love painting in part because I love the idea of the area with inevitable context,” Hohlwein said. “Everything – in life, in space, in time, no matter what, no matter on what scale, exists in the context of something larger – a field.

“The title of the show loosely related to my – often challenging – experience of navigating one and a half years of the pandemic. During the lockdown, so many of us had long hours to pay more attention to our daily rhythms and the different qualities at different times of the day. ”

Hohlwein has taught writing and art-related subjects at several colleges around the county and is currently an adjunct professor at Los Rios Community College District and an instructor at Mule Creek State Prison.

Visitors are welcome to view the art when the meetings are in session. Remember that masks are required while inside the boardrooms. To check when the next meeting is scheduled, see the online board meeting calendar.
