LA to require COVID vaccines at bars, nightclubs, more

Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination will be required at indoor bars, wineries, breweries, nightclubs and lounges in Los Angeles County during an upcoming health ordinance, which an official said will help further armor the region against another coronavirus wave.

The mandate will also apply to employees of these companies and require that both they and patrons have at least one vaccine dose by October 7 and are fully vaccinated by November 4, Health Director Barbara Ferrer announced during Wednesday’s board meeting.

“This is a reasonable way forward that will enable us to better break the cycle of surges,” she told the board.

Under the new order, attendees and workers at outdoor “mega-events” with more than 10,000 attendees will also have to provide evidence of vaccination or show that they have recently tested negative for coronavirus infection. This requirement is already in place for indoor events where at least 1,000 people are in attendance.

Ferrer said county health officials also strongly recommend, but do not require, vaccination checks at indoor parts of restaurants.

The county’s standing demands that residents disguise themselves in public indoor settings remain in place, she added.
