After a shooting took place this afternoon in a tourist area of Vancouver’s Coal Harbor, a man was found dead and a murder investigation is underway.
According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), around 3:30 p.m. today (September 15), officers responded to a report of a man not responding to Level 3 of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel parking lot near Cordova and Burrard streets.
Paramedics also attended the scene and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is the 13thth killings in the city this year. VPD has not yet revealed its identity.
VPD spokesman const. Tania Visintin stated that it was a “shameless shooting [that] happened in broad daylight, ”and that investigators believe it was a targeted shooting.
“We ask the public to be vigilant while we find the one responsible,” Visintin said.
Although not yet arrested, the investigation is still ongoing.
VPD has not yet stated whether this shooting has any connection to the gang conflict in the lower mainland.
Anyone with information should call the VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Earlier this year, a man was shot dead on April 18 outside Cardero’s restaurant also in Coal Harbor. In the ensuing weeks, a wave of gang-related, deadly and often cheeky day-to-day shootings erupted across the lower mainland, spreading itself to Nanaimo and Calgary.
