An Oscar nominee and an Emmy winner team up to bring “Saint X” to Hulu. Dee Rees, who received an Oscar nod for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Mudbound,” and Leila Gerstein, winner of an excellent drama series emmy for “The Handmaid’s Tale,” are working on a series adaptation of Alexis Schaitkin’s novel for the streamer. Rees instructs and Gerstein writes the project, according to a press release.
Said in “multiple timelines and perspectives”, “Saint X” is a psychological drama that “explores and exalts the missing girl genre. It is a show about how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect, which eventually draws her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth, ”Hulu suggests.
Rees received two Emmy nods for “Bessie,” an HBO TV movie about blues singer Bessie Smith. Her other credits include “The Last Thing He Wanted” and “Pariah.”
“Mrs. America,” “Claws,” and “Gossip Girl” are among Gerstein’s credits.
