North London-inspired Tottenham third set officially released

Say what you will about Tottenham’s away and third set – they are certainly not boring. After having designs and details leaked months ago, Tottenham Hotspur and Spurs Women finally released their purple and white third set to the public for sale this morning, possibly before their debut on the pitch in the Europa Conference League against Stade Rennais.

Continuing on “let’s throw something crazy on the wall and see what sticks” the designos that also resulted in Nike’s paint swirling away, this one has a “striking purple design [that] celebrates the vitality of the club’s N17 district. “According to the publication on Spurs ‘website, the third set’ design was inspired by several creative young people from North London who were guided in a local art studio. The design is actually not AF the young people, but “inspired by” their inspiration. Or something like that. Strange that they took inspiration from the young children, but actually did not let the children design the kits themselves.

I do not really understand why kit design companies like Nike feel the need to construct an entire background for their shirts. It is not particularly necessary. Good (or bad) design can simply be good (or bad). I do not necessarily need my weird quasi-quartet Spurple and Cream sets to have some sort of intricate cultural connection to a particular neighborhood to be a little dope.

And it’s actually a little dope. At least they are for me. They are certainly interesting, but like any kit design, there is guaranteed to be at least 30% of Spurs fans who will think they are rubbish (or will, until they get to the Champions League final wearing one, come to me Green Third Likes).

Anyway, you can buy them now on Tottenham’s website and I’m guessing the timing of this release is because we’ll very likely be going to see them in action in Rennes tonight.
