After accepting a purchase with the Detroit Pistons this summer, DeAndre Jordan said it was an easy choice to come to Los Angeles.
Marc Gasol’s Laker’s future looked increasingly murky as each day went on, so it led LA to an unexpected name in Jordan. Jordan spent much of his career in the second LA uniform, but the Lakers had everything he was hoping for.
When the New Jersey Nets sent Jordan to Detroit, mostly to save some costs, rumors spread about Jordan coming to the Lakers already. In an interview with Spectrum Sportsnet, Jordan said the choice was easy.
“Man, it was not a very tough decision. You will always be a place where you are wanted and a place where you have a chance to compete and fight for something. It’s a team goal and of course I was here playing my first 10 years of professional basketball and it was a great experience for me and just to be able to be back in my family and an organization ready to compete for another title is exciting to me. ”
An easy choice for sure, but it was clearly the best choice for Jordan in terms of playing time. His playing time in Brooklyn had been squeezed down to a small amount, averaging 21 minutes per game. Match. Other teams would probably not give him more playing time. In the small minutes, however, he managed to take an average of 7.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks, so while Jordan’s best NBA days are behind him, there may be some fuel left in the tank.
This is not the Lakers first time using ‘big man reclamation project’. In the shortened bubble season of 2020, Dwight Howard was not a big name in the market, but the Lakers picked him up. In the championship race, Howard played some of his best basketball. Lakers and Laker fans hope this can be repeated with Jordan.
