Melbourne have taken the precautionary step of putting Simon Goodwin in quarantine from the squad after the coach woke up on Friday morning and felt ill. Goodwin was scheduled to hold a press conference before team training at Joondalup on Friday, but was told to stay at the team hotel as a safety precaution. Assistant coach Adam Yze also fell ill and was told to stay at the team’s hotel. A number of Geelong players were stricken with illness in up to their 83-point initial final loss to the demons. Melbourne takes every precaution to ensure that the same situation does not arise for them. “He (Goodwin) woke up a little villain, both him and Yze,” Demons assistant coach Troy Chaplin said. “They’s coming well tomorrow, but the club would not take any risk and the doctor just said to stay back.” It’s always a concern (that it may spread), but at the moment it’s just the two boys who have woken up a little sick. “All the players are going to be fine today and they’re all here.” Given the stakes, it’s important that we do not have anything sweeping throughout the club, so the doctors are just playing it safe. “Australian Associated Press
