Manchester United are planning an extraordinary double attack on German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund to try and sign Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland.
That is according to a report by the Independent, which claims that United, who meet West Ham United at London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, would like to lure both players to Old Trafford at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
Bellingham, who had a tour of United’s Carrington training ground before joining Dortmund from Birmingham City in July 2020, is considered one of the hottest properties in world football, with his performances for both BVB and England in recent months attracting plenty of attention and admiration.
The same can be said about striker Haaland, who has had a flying start to the 2021/22 season and scored nine goals in his first seven games in all tournaments.
Haaland have a release clause in their contract at Dortmund next summer, and United, as previously reported by the Manchester Evening News, have named him as their top target to secure a long-term face to lead the club’s attacking line.
Also, the signing of a new central midfielder remains a priority for the Reds and Bellingham may just be the ticket. As the English international continued to go from strength to strength, United would no doubt be forced to part with a huge sum of money to have a chance to lure him back to his home country and secure his signature.
Elsewhere, it has been reported by Corriere dello Sport journalist Antonio Giordano, as quoted by Sport Witness, that United saw a £ 30m bid struck back at Napoli center-back Kalidou Koulibaly before signing Raphael Varane this summer.
Getting a new midfielder at the top level was a top priority for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær this summer, and he managed to land Varane after the club entered into an agreement with Real Madrid to sign the experienced Frenchman.
However, it is now claimed that United had first hoped to sign Koulibaly to strengthen their central defensive options, with a £ 30million offer being rejected by Napoli.
It is claimed that the Italian heavyweights wanted ‘at least’ £ 43million for the Senegalese international.
