30 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the country’s capital on Friday as police increase border controls.
ACT has reported 30 new locally acquired cases of Covid-19 overnight, just shy of the record set earlier this month.
There are now 245 active cases in the area with eight people in the hospital and one requiring ventilation.
Prime Minister Andrew Barr said 2,866 tests were carried out, with only 12 of the 30 new cases quarantined during the contagious period.
“Nowadays it’s not the first time we’ve seen new daily case numbers in the 30s … it’s too early to know if this is a one off, but it’s clear this is not a good number, “Barr said.
The 30 new cases – registered for 24 hours until 20:00 – come as the ACT police increase compliance checks along the territory’s borders.
Police returned 12 drivers at the border Thursday from about 4,300 checks.
