That Clear The Air Dream Edition, which plans to begin deliveries later this year, will receive 520 miles of EPA-estimated range, Lucid announced Thursday. The figure, already on EPA’s Fueleconomy.gov Web site, is 115 miles higher than for the longest range Tesla, which is the benchmark in the industry.

This is something of a feather in Lucid’s hat, like has presented his case in recent months in the time leading up to the release of air. Lucid’s case is about interior space (there is a shocking amount of it) and also range, where the company increases the football a bit on Thursday with his message:

The results are in and the Lucid Air Dream Edition R has exceeded expectations. With 520 miles on a single charge, it has achieved a record-breaking official EPA range, making it the first electric car to ever break 500 miles. * It beats the nearest competitors by over 100 miles, meaning you could take from Los Angeles to San Francisco without stopping.

“I’m glad our Lucid Air Dream Edition series has been officially accredited with a range of 520 miles by the EPA, a number I believe is a new record for any EV. Crucially, this milestone has been achieved with Lucid’s world-leading internal EV technology, not just by installing an oversized battery pack, ”said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of Lucid Group. “Our race-proven 900V battery and BMS technology, our miniaturized drives combined with our Wunderbox technology give Lucid Air ultra-high efficiency so it can travel more miles from less battery power. The next generation of EV has really arrived! ”

Here are the EPA estimated intervals for all Airs different trimmers:

The longest range Tesla has is the Model S Long Range, which gets 405 miles of range; The car starts at $ 89,990 (plus $ 1,200 destination fee) while Air’s base “Pure” trim starts at $ 77,700 (plus unknown destination fee) and offers 406 miles range. The Air Grand Touring Edition, which promises 516 miles of EPA-estimated range thanks to its 113 kWh battery and an apparent focus on overall vehicle efficiency, starts at $ 139,000 plus destination fee, while Dream Edition runs $ 169,000 plus destination – much more expensive than $ 129,990 Model S Plaid, Tesla’s flagship. At a certain price point, I’m not sure the actual customers in these cars will count.

Now that we’re in the low 500s with range, is it also fine if we stop there? It’s eight-to-nine hours of highway driving, or anything you would ever really do in a day, except for you road warriors out there who are proud to walk 16 hours in a row. A real young man’s game, that.
