Jagmeet Singh faces Fairy Creek protesters during last push in Toronto

TORONTO-A group of protesters called on Jagmeet Singh to make the Fairy Creek old-growth logging standoff an election issue as the NDP leader pushed for voters in a liberally held ride.

Singh told the handful of protesters in Toronto who were driving in Davenport that it is important that indigenous peoples lead decisions on resources in their traditional territory.

Nearly 1,000 people have been arrested in protests over deforestation of ancient forests in the Vancouver Island area.

Previously, Singh faced questions about the new Democrat’s tax on the wealthy and affordable housing strategy, major points on the party’s platform that have been the subject of some criticism for lack of detail.

He says the new Democrats are proposing things that have not been done in a long time, but that does not mean they should not try.

Singh says he is not worried that progressives will vote Left and has been laser-focused on criticizing Justin Trudeau.
