COVID Update in New York City: Officials Investigate 16 Cases Related to Electric Zoo Music Festival

The NEW YORK CITY (WABC) Department of Health is investigating a cluster of COVID-19 cases linked to the Electric Zoo music festival this weekend on Labor Day.

Sixteen people have so far been identified as part of the cluster. from the festival on Randalls ø.

“The Department of Health is leading this study, but New Yorkers have a crucial role to play,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Dave A. Chokshi. “Anyone who participated in this festival should be tested immediately, whether they have been vaccinated or not. This is especially urgent if participants experience symptoms.”

In addition to the 16 people, an additional eight have been identified who were present while potentially contagious.

Electric Zoo ran from September 3-5.

COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result obtained within 72 hours after the first day of the festival was required to attend. However, evidence of a dose of the vaccine was acceptable, meaning that a guest was considered vaccinated even if he or she received the vaccine the same day they attended the event.

For those who attended the festival but live outside of NYC, visit your local health department’s website to find a test option.
