So you tell me some of them is not broken?

There’s almost nothing worse than being completely hyped for a Maccie’s, excitedly passing the warming Golden Arches into the drive-thru before you get your dreams completely shattered by the window when you discover it-for what feels like 900th time- the ice machine is back, broken. It’s like an arrow through the heart every single time, so much so, even federal officials in the United States are investigating why they are broken so bloody much. In Kris Jenner’s words, this is really a ‘case for the FBI’.

To solve the problem in the meantime, German-based infrastructure engineer @rashiq has created on Twitter an ingenious map highlighting every single McDonald’s in the world — marked with a simple red if the ice machine is broken, and green if it’s good to go.

A surprising number of ice machines are in operation in the capital. Well done, London – for now! (Credit: McBroken).

Not surprisingly, it is quite divided across London, with a few restaurants appearing as ‘McBroken’ on the map. And while it’s a devastating thought to know that they’re probably not a strawberry milkshake waiting for you today, the handy card is certainly useful for saving us a ride if no ice cream is a total dealbreaker.

The tool, developed last year, wisely uses McDonald’s internal API to find out which Maccies are in full action, placing orders for thousands and thousands of dollars every single minute to get the information.
