Officer Family name added to Memorial Wall in DC

WORCESTER, Mass. Worcester Police Officer Manny Familia’s name to be added to National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Washington, DC in May 2022.

Members of Police Pipes and Drums of Worcester hope to attend National Police Week in DC and be there when Officer Family’s name is added.

In an attempt to raise money for the trip, they are holding a pub crawl on Friday, September 17th.

“We’re going to play and march down and around the Green Street area and stop at a lot of companies,” said bandleader Keith Hamilton. “We are going to play music and sell t-shirts. We stop inside each company for a short period of time and then we have to go back to the place where we started. “

“When we march up the wall, to go into the facility and see one of your own officers’ names being placed on the wall, and the bell rings and we play ‘Amazing Grace,’ it’s just an emotional scene for all law enforcement, Said Officer Billy Armstrong.

Familia died when she tried to rescue a drowning teenager in Green Hill Pond in June.

Rutland Police Detective John Songy’s name was also added to the memorial. Songy died of COVID-19 in May last year and will be honored in Washington, DC in October.
