Broccoli City Music Festival canceled over COVID-19 worries-NBC4 Washington

The Broccoli City Music Festival has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns less than three weeks before thousands of people were due to attend.

Acts with big names, including Lil Baby, Snoh Aalegra and Moneybagg Yo, were to perform at RFK Stadium in October, but the organizers canceled the event on Tuesday.

Broccoli City was planned in a largely outdoor location in Maryland, which is considered safer. However, the Broccoli City organizers did not say they would endanger the DC area community.

“At the heart of Broccoli City is the belief that our people deserve the best of everything – including safe spaces to gather to celebrate our culture,” Broccoli City said in a social media post.

Broccoli City says it wants to do its part to curb the spread of the virus in color communities.

Organizers say all tickets will be automatically refunded in the coming weeks.

This is the second year in a row that Broccoli City is canceling due to the pandemic.

COVID-19 cases have been steadily rising in the DC area since July.

The virus spread rapidly in DC, Maryland and Virginia. The seven-day average number of new cases has not been as high since February — before vaccines were widely available.

Doctors and public health officials say it’s the best way to protect yourself from the virus by getting a COVID-19 vaccine, and it’s wise to wear a mask when you’re indoors in public.
