The Los Angeles Lakers could not repeat themselves as NBA champions when the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA Championship in 2021 less than 10 months after the Lakers fought through the Orlando Bubble to become 2020 NBA champions.
The Lakers fell short in the first round of the NBA Finals after Anthony Davis suffered an injury as the Lakers had a 2-1 lead against the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers would probably have beaten Phoenix if they were fully healthy, but we’ll never know.
Phoenix lost in the NBA Finals to the Bucks despite having a 2-0 lead. It is believed to be the crown jewel of Gianni’s Antetokounmpo, and now the Bucks are one of the favorites to win the title in 2022.
However, the Milwaukee Bucks are not at the Los Angeles Lakers level.
Although the Bucks are definitely candidates, they should be considered a level below the Lakers. The Lakers and Brooklyn Nets should be considered the two teams at Level 1. If both teams stay healthy, then it’s the NBA Finals matchup without a doubt.
The Bucks occupy the next layer of teams and may even be alone at that level. They will need more injury luck to repeat themselves as champions.
